Extras: Week 9 "A Day In The Life"

6:30- we wake up and we have time to exercise and get ready for the day, by showering, eating, clean up a little and whatever we need to do. 8:00- we have personal study and we study by ourselves. I usually study the B of M for 20 min, then Preach My Gospel for 20min, then the rest is time for whatever I want or feeling for the lessons that day. 9:00- we have companion study, during this time we plan our day, we might call the families we made appts with and check to see if they are still good, then we study a chapter from preach my gospel, after we go over what we are going to teach and what we found in our personal study time. 10:00- It's the time for us to go harvest the fields as they say, but since I'm learning a new lang, I get to have an hour of Lang Study, we read the B of M in English and Spanish, English for my comp, and Spanish for me. Then I go over words that I don't know, I have a little notebook that I write down words throughout the day that I don´t k

Week 9 - 1st Baptism

Monday-It is our P’day, we got up and had to hike our laundry to this lady, then after we met up with our district and we went on a hike close to the mountain I went to last P-day, after we got food and got to write! Later we had to help someone move a washing station into their house and it took 8 of us, it was really heavy! But we managed to get it in. Tuesday- we woke up and we had a district meeting, after the meeting we had divisions. Divisions are when you go with another missionary for 24 hours, I got to be companions with Elder Norales, he is from Honduras, and he's 24, he knows so much about the gospel and scriptures. He taught me a lot during the day, and helped teach me how to teach. He made me some really good Honduran food, so so good. Wednesday-I got to come back to my companion today, we got to go to this store today to get food, because we literally don´t have any food in our house, but after talking to E. Norales yesterday, he is the Zone leader and gav

It's priceless hearing Josh's voice!

Extras: Week 8 / Origami

-Zone conference was during the week -Josh is in Cerrito de Maiz, Huehuetenango -He wants us to send vitamins, gets to eat what is provided and worried he's not getting enough vegetables. -President Diaz asked if he wanted to talk to his dad after his Grandpa Eloyd's passing.  They tried a couple times, but couldn't get through.  (Ronnie had no missed calls from Guatemala, something must be up with the connection). -He talked more about his 1st blessing in Spanish for the lady who had a foot injury.  He said it was a great experience and the lady has been walking all over the place since, lots of faith! -He likes the Spanish "I am a child of God" stickers we went and gives them out to the kids.  He's been making origami for the kids he meets as well.  (I knew that talent would come in handy one day!)

Week 8: Cow Eyeballs and 1st Blessing in Spanish

Image
Tuesday, today was a good day we woke up and had to do personal study and then take a bus to the stake meeting house, we had district with the other missionaries in our district. We talked about all our goals and other things, I didn't understand a whole lot, but I'm getting better at it. We then had to walk all the way back, and got lunch. We then had companion and language study. It started to pour, we were making appointments on the phone for the next few days and then we had to leave to do some visits. And it was pouring, the first house didn't answer. Then the second house was Hermana Rosario and she has a big family that isn't members, but she is. We taught a lesson to some of her family, then she has a broken foot that hasn't been healing, so she asked for a blessing, I was hoping to do the first part, but my companion just started doing it. Then I had to give my first blessing in Spanish, it was really cool, my Spanish is not goo

McKay received his endowment in the Jordan River Temple tonight and we were able to be there to support Josh's "brother from another mother."  We love KK!

Eloyd's Funeral

Image
Eloyd Montoya passed away on August 9, 2018.  Here are a few pictures from the funeral.  While it has been tough to say goodbye, so many family and friends came to show their support and love for Lydia and the family.  We'll miss him and are grateful we'll see him again when we go back home.

Week 7

I'm sorry I didn't write a group email last week.  I was only allowed to write one email to my parents. but the field has been crazy.  We had an orientation the first day and met our companions, then we went through the Quezaltenango Temple.  This is my new fave temple, it is so beautiful inside and out, it looks little but the inside is amazing. We then had to go around town for my companion to get meds, and after that took a bus to Huehue. It was a 4 hour ride and the bus gets packed and people get on top, it's really crazy.    The first nights here really sucked and I really questioned why I was here, but it got way better. I love the people even though I can't communicate well yet. I live in a shack, that is going to take some getting used to!  We have to walk down a big dirt hill to get to it, but I'm getting used to it, haha. I've seen probably 500 different dogs here and most of them are strays.  We already have a dog friend that follows us whereve

Week 6: Goodbye to the CCM

I made it! And I’m safe, this is off the president's phone. My companion doesn’t speak any English, but the temple is my fav right now. I love you!! My P day is Monday.

Extras / Week 5 #ProofOfLife

There's not a lot of extra information, Josh's big email was the best we've seen yet.  Apparently he borrowed someone's Alphasmart and had the email ready so was able to send a few more personal emails this week.  Again, Hermano Mario Gomez is the real MVP sending me some pictures of our boy since the missionaries aren't allowed to take/send pictures while in the training center.  This teacher/friend of Josh's is coming to visit Utah in December and has never been to the United States.  We want to meet up with him! Josh was told he can't send mail back home, but I think it's just at the CCM.  The Mission On The Fly people will take packages home that and allow us to pay the shipping so no out of pocket for the missionaries.  Josh wants to send Guatemalan ties back for the deacons/young men. He had a blowout in one of his basketball shoes that has soles with air pocket things and now it's lopsided. He says his companion reminds him a little o

Week 5: Barber Shop Haircut #winning

(Updated CCM Branch Picture from July 20, 2018. Josh is right behind the CCM President's Wife Needing a Haircut) Josh's Week 5 Letter Thursday --some of us had to go to the immigration center and we had to leave really early in the morning to beat the line. Anyways we had to go in and wait like 3 hours still then, we had to sign like 2 papers and get a picture, to say that we are staying here or something. We saw lots of weird people there, but everyone is so nice. We had a convo with this one lady for like an hour, it was really cool to learn things about her. We then spent another 2 more hours waiting to go back, it was a long time. When we got back we had class and our teacher told us a story about his mission and being obedient. It was a scary story but it taught us really to be obedient to all the rules and he bore his testimony about as well. I have been learning a ton and it has been easier to understand things. It was a good day. Friday -- so we had sports
