Extras / Week 5 #ProofOfLife


There's not a lot of extra information, Josh's big email was the best we've seen yet.  Apparently he borrowed someone's Alphasmart and had the email ready so was able to send a few more personal emails this week.  Again, Hermano Mario Gomez is the real MVP sending me some pictures of our boy since the missionaries aren't allowed to take/send pictures while in the training center.  This teacher/friend of Josh's is coming to visit Utah in December and has never been to the United States.  We want to meet up with him!

Josh was told he can't send mail back home, but I think it's just at the CCM.  The Mission On The Fly people will take packages home that and allow us to pay the shipping so no out of pocket for the missionaries.  Josh wants to send Guatemalan ties back for the deacons/young men.

He had a blowout in one of his basketball shoes that has soles with air pocket things and now it's lopsided.

He says his companion reminds him a little of his Uncle Mikes.  Haha - you'll have to ask him what that means!

Next week he leaves for the mission field Tuesday morning and can't wait to leave the CCM, even if there's a little apprehension.

Yay for P day!

***We started receiving downloads from Josh's smart camera on Wednesday night through Thursday.  You should have seen us freaking out like it was Christmas morning.  I've gone and put the pictures into the respective week's email where it belongs.***

Week 1: Buzz Cut

Josh's 1st Week Email Wednesday:  A lot of missionaries were on my flight.  The flight was pretty amazing, the sunset was awesome.  When we arrived in Guatemala, we had to take a bus to the MTC and the traffic here is crazy.  It makes Utah look like nothing!  Guatemala is beautiful and so colorful.  We arrived in the morning, we did not get to sleep that much.  We had interviews, room checks, and identification checks.  Before we got our picture taken, they grabbed some of us and went to a room.  We went in and basically had to get a buzz cut.  I'm still kind of mad about that as well as others, but oh well.  We then had lessons for Spanish all day and a workshop at the end on rules.  I learned as much Spanish in a couple hours then I did in 6 months at school.  Food here is really good, lots of variety and fruit with every meal.  I got my companion who is Elder Money. Farewell

I know we're not supposed to call it a Farewell, but that describes it!  I think Josh may have invited a million people and I'm grateful he has so many family, friends, and ward members who love and support him.  Josh spoke in church about the Family Proclamation.  Vinny was the youth speaker and Kelly Zierse (Josh's former Young Men's President and family friend spoke as well).  They all did a great job, I know as Josh prepared this talk, he was thinking of several loved ones and hoping that he'd be able to portray the importance and reason he was choosing to serve a mission for the Lord.  He hoped that they'd feel the Spirit and have their hearts softened to the point that they'd choose to act and find out more about the restored gospel.
