Week 2



Josh's email from his 2nd week:

Wednesday- P days are so nice we get to go to the temple in the morning, but it is closed for two weeks, so that kind of blows. But we get to chill, play sports, clean our rooms, write to everyone and there is a store you can buy things from. I have gotten a couple of ties from there.

Thursday -  We played sports in the morning then we just have personal study and planning time. Then we have language study and we had to practice teaching. We then had our last lesson with Fernando and it went okay haha. 

Friday - We have sports and the rest of the normal schedule. Today they told us we would be having a investigator in the morning and at night. So that is a challenge to plan two lessons a day. I like it though, really fun.

The investigators are our teachers but they act like the people and they are serious actors haha, In the mornings we teach Nick and the evenings, we teach Tyler.

Saturday - We got up and had study time, then we were taught different lessons. We taught Tyler for the first time tonight and it went really well. We had sports in the afternoon and it is so hot. We then had to setup for Sunday. 

Sunday - Sundays are really chill, and sacrament meeting is really cool, it's all in Spanish and I'm understanding more and more. We then have good talks right after and awesome videos all day. 

Monday and Tuesday - We did the usual stuff in the mornings, but today we were able to teach both our investigators. It is really nice and fun to do, 

So my teacher Hermano Gomez said he might hook me up with a cheap suit and he has been telling me about going to Utah in December, which is fun to talk to him about. 
The weather here is so nice and it is normally overcast and it is just so nice. But sometimes we get rain and have lots of sun at other times. 
Overall it has been great, sometimes I struggle, but I just push through it and it's all good. The food is still amazing and I miss and love all you guys!

Week 1: Buzz Cut

Josh's 1st Week Email Wednesday:  A lot of missionaries were on my flight.  The flight was pretty amazing, the sunset was awesome.  When we arrived in Guatemala, we had to take a bus to the MTC and the traffic here is crazy.  It makes Utah look like nothing!  Guatemala is beautiful and so colorful.  We arrived in the morning, we did not get to sleep that much.  We had interviews, room checks, and identification checks.  Before we got our picture taken, they grabbed some of us and went to a room.  We went in and basically had to get a buzz cut.  I'm still kind of mad about that as well as others, but oh well.  We then had lessons for Spanish all day and a workshop at the end on rules.  I learned as much Spanish in a couple hours then I did in 6 months at school.  Food here is really good, lots of variety and fruit with every meal.  I got my companion who is Elder Money. Extras / Week 5 #ProofOfLife

There's not a lot of extra information, Josh's big email was the best we've seen yet.  Apparently he borrowed someone's Alphasmart and had the email ready so was able to send a few more personal emails this week.  Again, Hermano Mario Gomez is the real MVP sending me some pictures of our boy since the missionaries aren't allowed to take/send pictures while in the training center.  This teacher/friend of Josh's is coming to visit Utah in December and has never been to the United States.  We want to meet up with him! Josh was told he can't send mail back home, but I think it's just at the CCM.  The Mission On The Fly people will take packages home that and allow us to pay the shipping so no out of pocket for the missionaries.  Josh wants to send Guatemalan ties back for the deacons/young men. Extras: Week 11

Dogs are everywhere! I have seen people whip dogs with belts, dogs get hit by cars, dogs kill other dogs, little grandmas kicking the crap out of dogs. It's sad. Lots of puppies that die, because they don't have shelter or food. I hate that. People here just breastfeed in the opening and there have been times where they just breastfeed during our lessons and its okay for that here haha. Then they forget that its out, ugh, it's really uncomfortable. I saw someone roasting a cat…. That was horrible. I have seen people hit by cars, the traffic here is crazy, I would not want to drive here. When we up to that mountain the first time, I was with Elder Johns and we rode on top of the van to the mountain, then after in the city we were on a van, just holding on to the top and and our feet in the van.The vans and buses here, don't really stop you just kind of hop in and then pay as they are driving then hop out when you want, but there are so many motorcycles her
