Week 34: Best Week of My Life

Monday- My birthday!!!! Today we got up and got ready then went and played sports for like 3 hours, after we went to eat at the only restaurant in our area, a pizza place haha, it was really good, we then got our haircuts and then went to write everybody. After we did divisions to help the other missionaries go to two appts. I went with Elder Lopez and we had a great lesson with one of their investigators, later we went to this family's house to have dinner, then we shared a little thought with them, later we went with this family, his name is Diego and his wife L

ucy, he had a little treat for me and sang happy birthday to me, he is the best, his wife is going to have her baby this week, and he painted a room and bought a bunch of clothes and made some too, but we gave his wife a blessing to help her. We came back home, my president called me to wish me a happy birthday, then we got the cake out and my comps sung happy birthday to me, we had the cake and later went to sleep.
Tuesday- Today we got up and got ready then went half an hour to the Hermanas area, for a district meeting, we met up with our district and had it, went really good learned a lot, then the hermanas said they had something and brought in a cake and sang happy birthday to me haha, it was so nice haha, they are the best, we then came back home after and went to work, we gave another blessing to this young girl the was going through some difficult things, then we met with some investigators with members because they speak quiche and that went really good, got a lot of stuff done.
Wednesday- Today we got up and we left to go work, we worked really hard in the morning, then we had lunch way way far away, that went really good, they give us so much soup here. We then visited with some families and shared some spiritual thoughts and asked for there help with our work. Later we got to into a Tu, its like this like house, they have hot rocks and boiling water, you go in and it's like a steam room, you shower with a bowl of water, and mix hot and cold water together, it was so nice, but so hot!! What a experience that was!!We then came back home and went to sleep early.
Thursday- We all woke up late because we were supposed to get up at 4:30 and be at the bus by 5.30 but we all woke up late, got ready way fast and ran to our bus haha, in suits.. We then traveled to pick up a bunch of missionaries from areas near us, we then left to Xela. When we got there we went in and our whole mission was there, usually it's just people from Xela, and the others have meetings for Huehue, but everybody was there and got to see some good friends, we then waited and read our scriptures. The other thing is that the other mission, Rhenilu came too, so it was both missions in one building. We waited and then the best thing happened, Elder D Todd Christofferson came in with his wife, the spirit and the power you could feel was just so strong, he brought Elder Godoy and his wife of the seventy and then also Elder Cordon and his wife president of the area to talk with us. Everyone got to shake their hands before we started and that was amazing, I could feel the spirit so strong!! They all bore testimony and the spirit was so strong then, then Elder Christofferson came and talked so much, but the spirit was so strong when he was talking and I know he is an true apostol, he talked a lot about the Book of Mormon and how we need o use it a lot more, and we need to teach the people to have a testimony and not just baptize them, he then bore his testimony and he said something really cool, he said Se que Jesucristo vive, y  lo visto.. So that means he has seen Jesus Christ!! Thats awesome!! I was so happy for him to come, and when he left we were all stunned. We then got into our missions and my president talked about how big that opportunity was to hear from him and then we had a testimony meeting and bore our testimonies about how we feel, the spirit in that room was so so strong!!
We then got to have lunch with the whole mission after and I helped some of the Ladies serve with some friends, then after I finally got my package, thank you all for the notes and thank you to my parents for the awesome package!!We picked up a bunch of things at the office, BofM and Pamphlets, then came back to our area, we went out to teach this little girl for her baptism next week, we taught her the principles of the gospel, but she doesn't speak any spanish and it was really hard haha, it went good then came back home had study time, and then I opened my package! Then we all went to sleep because we were really tired!
Friday-  Today we got up and got ready, we had our weekly planning and planned a lot for our investigators and other contacts. We then went and visited some investigators but a lot were not there, we then got to go way far in our area and meet some new people, it went really good, we then went with our mission leader to visit some people but they weren't there so we did some tracking. Later we went to a members house and he gave us dinner!! We never get dinner, but we shared a little thought about faith with them.
Saturday- Today we had a visit early in the morning, met with this girl and asked her if she knew these things were true, would she be baptized and she said es, we just need to keep working with her and strengthening her faith, we then had lunch with the Bishop and later we helped this lady bring wood into her house, like a ton of wood, after we visited with some investigators and contacted some people. We then visited this lady and she had something really bad happened to her, but she is okay and her kids are too, they are moving but we asked if we could help with anything. Then took some pics with the kids!
Sunday -Today we got up and went to church, it went really good and some of our investigators changed, it was awesome. We then left to work and we visited some people with this this kid from the ward and he helped us with the Quiche and just showing him around what a mission is like, we then visited some members in the night and gave little spiritual thoughts about faith and esperanza and other things. It went really good, we gave 6 blessings today in total haha, it was really fun and I just the that the priesthood is real and works miracles if you have the faith, I know it was restored through a Prophet Joseph Smith, I love this gospel and I love Preaching, I miss all you guys and love ya!!! Oh did you hear about the new rules about contacting in missions!!! Awesome, my mom is going to love that!! Have a great week!!

Week 1: Buzz Cut

Josh's 1st Week Email Wednesday:  A lot of missionaries were on my flight.  The flight was pretty amazing, the sunset was awesome.  When we arrived in Guatemala, we had to take a bus to the MTC and the traffic here is crazy.  It makes Utah look like nothing!  Guatemala is beautiful and so colorful.  We arrived in the morning, we did not get to sleep that much.  We had interviews, room checks, and identification checks.  Before we got our picture taken, they grabbed some of us and went to a room.  We went in and basically had to get a buzz cut.  I'm still kind of mad about that as well as others, but oh well.  We then had lessons for Spanish all day and a workshop at the end on rules.  I learned as much Spanish in a couple hours then I did in 6 months at school.  Food here is really good, lots of variety and fruit with every meal.  I got my companion who is Elder Money. Extras / Week 5 #ProofOfLife

There's not a lot of extra information, Josh's big email was the best we've seen yet.  Apparently he borrowed someone's Alphasmart and had the email ready so was able to send a few more personal emails this week.  Again, Hermano Mario Gomez is the real MVP sending me some pictures of our boy since the missionaries aren't allowed to take/send pictures while in the training center.  This teacher/friend of Josh's is coming to visit Utah in December and has never been to the United States.  We want to meet up with him! Josh was told he can't send mail back home, but I think it's just at the CCM.  The Mission On The Fly people will take packages home that and allow us to pay the shipping so no out of pocket for the missionaries.  Josh wants to send Guatemalan ties back for the deacons/young men. Extras: Week 11

Dogs are everywhere! I have seen people whip dogs with belts, dogs get hit by cars, dogs kill other dogs, little grandmas kicking the crap out of dogs. It's sad. Lots of puppies that die, because they don't have shelter or food. I hate that. People here just breastfeed in the opening and there have been times where they just breastfeed during our lessons and its okay for that here haha. Then they forget that its out, ugh, it's really uncomfortable. I saw someone roasting a cat…. That was horrible. I have seen people hit by cars, the traffic here is crazy, I would not want to drive here. When we up to that mountain the first time, I was with Elder Johns and we rode on top of the van to the mountain, then after in the city we were on a van, just holding on to the top and and our feet in the van.The vans and buses here, don't really stop you just kind of hop in and then pay as they are driving then hop out when you want, but there are so many motorcycles her
